I sat down to write my very first blog post at sewandsowlife sixteen years ago today. I started out as a very awkward beginner. Over the years, sewandsowlife has become a journal, where I post photos, musings, links of interest…my blog has become sort of a friend to me. The blog followed my journey from being a part time Vermonter, to becoming a full timer and through a major home renovation. I’ve chronicled my life as a mom with a kid or two still in the house through a time where all four of them have grown into parenthood. I’ve become a grandma of five wee morsels. And I sew and I sow here on my blog, too.
I’m so very grateful to have all of you along for the ride. When I wonder if my voice is relevant, in pop a new batch of subscription requests (this time, again, thanks to my friend Anne Butera’s newsletter.) Welcome Charlotte, Mary, Irene, Tamera, An, Barb, Jennifer, Annemarie and Bonnie! Thank you so much for subscribing.
When I’m not sure of my voice, I look to others to inspire me. When I read Heather Cox Richardson this morning I thought to myself, “Yes, this is why we get up each morning and face the day with hope and courage. No matter what.”
And when I began working on my 100 day stitch book, I reached for a wonderful kids book for inspiration.
I listened to Krista Tippet interview Joan Baez as I did my daily stitching this morning. And I’m looking forward to watching A Complete Unknown,
The juxtaposition of three events in our nation have me more aware than at any other time, that we must maintain our agency, fortitude, courage and connections to those we love.
Thank you Jimmy Carter and Martin Luther King Jr for lighting the way forward.
And thank you to the singers, the farmers, the healers, the menders, the knitters, the builders, the sewers, the weavers, the teachers and all the other helpers Mr Rogers spoke about.
Despite some dread in my heart, I will keep showing up here, friends. I will keep this a safe place for you to land when you need to rest. And I’ll keep us on our toes, too, for much will be required of those who care about the world and the people in it.
Indeed the times may be a changing’, but I like to think Pete Seeger’s golden thread will keep us all connected to one another with love.
May we all shine our own unique light in this world. xo
